Setup guide

Set up Batch Dispatch in minutes

Install, connect your carrier, choose where your labels land. That is the whole job. Most merchants are printing their first automated label within 15 minutes.

Install Batch Dispatch

How it works

Batch Dispatch creates your carrier labels automatically as orders come in. Every label is available in the app, and you can also have each PDF delivered to Amazon S3 or your own SFTP server. Point a print queue tool such as FolderMill at that folder and every label and packing slip prints itself. Your team just picks, packs and ships. No opening orders. No clicking print. No touching a screen.

Collection point labels, without Shopify Plus

On standard Shopify plans it is close to impossible to print a proper collection point address label. Batch Dispatch solves it. We built the collection point flow directly with Evri and have run it for client stores for years, no Shopify Plus required. That is the upgrade cost saved, every month.

Step 1: Install the app

Hit Install on the Shopify App Store listing. That is it. Everything else happens inside the app, and the setup screens walk you through each step below.

Start on the free plan if you like. It is a full working version, ideal for trying the flow or putting scalability in place before you need it.

Step 2: Connect your carrier (Evri or DHL)

Three things, all inside the app:

  1. Tell your carrier you are using their API service. A quick message to your account manager covers it.
  2. Add your API credentials. Client ID, client name, username and API secret. The API URL is prefilled for you. This is how your carrier knows the labels are yours and bills them to your account.
  3. Whitelisting is already done. Our system is whitelisted with the carrier APIs, so as a customer there is nothing for you to set up. If your carrier asks for the IP address, just ask us in live chat or email from inside the app.

Set Minimum Dispatch Days to match how quickly you hand parcels to the carrier (1 is right for most stores).

The steps are the same for Evri and DHL. Choose your carrier in the app and follow the same three steps.

Step 3: Set your return address

Add the address that prints on every label and set your Dispatch Origin Country. The origin country is used for customs declarations and tells the app when an order needs International Shipping settings. Both carriers currently require a European pickup.

Step 4: Choose where your labels go

Every label is always available to view and download inside the app. For automation, pick a storage type:

  • None: labels stay in the app only. Fine for low volume.
  • Amazon S3: each PDF is delivered to your S3 bucket. Add your access key, secret key, bucket name and folder path.
  • SFTP: each PDF is delivered to your own server. Add your host, username, secret key and remote path.

Automated printing: point FolderMill (or any folder-watching print tool) at your S3 or SFTP folder. New file arrives, label prints. Fully hands-off.

Step 5: Pick your label layout and packing slip

  • Templates: choose how each PDF is built. Default Template gives a standard packing slip with full order details. QR Code Template gives a compact slip with QR code and barcode. Label Only prints just the shipping label, with the page size matching the label exactly, ideal for dedicated label printers. Any label size works, from full-page label stock to A4 with the label in a set zone.
  • Packing slips: we recommend including them. One document per order makes picking and packing effortless. Customise the company name, contact email and a thank-you message that appears on every slip.

Step 6: Tracking and customer notifications

Two switches, both on by default and worth keeping on: tracking numbers sync automatically to your Shopify orders for every carrier, and customers get an email the moment their order is dispatched.

Step 7: Send a test order

Place a test order and watch it appear in the app with its label generated and tracking number attached. Confirm the PDF lands in your folder and prints the way you want. Once it looks right, you are live.

Shipping internationally?

If your orders cross a customs border, tick 'I ship internationally' and fill in your customs details: EORI and VAT numbers, IOSS if you use it, duties handling (DDU or DDP) and fallback HS code and country of manufacture. Per-product HS codes and country of origin are read from Shopify automatically; the defaults only apply when a product has none. Intra-EU deliveries do not need any of this. Skip this section entirely if you only ship domestically.

If a label fails

Carrier APIs occasionally fail. That is normal and expected, and Batch Dispatch is built for it:

  • The system retries automatically.
  • If a label still does not generate, open the app in Shopify admin and hit Regenerate. You can download it manually or send it back into your print queue to keep the picking line moving.
  • Need a label from a past order? Regenerate any historic label at any time, and generate a return label for any order from the same screen.

Your data, handled properly

As set out in our Privacy Policy, we send your carrier only what a label requires: customer name, delivery address including postcode, and email address. Order data is not stored in our database. It passes through our servers for processing only, the label is created, and the PDF is delivered to your destination.

Generated label PDFs are held so you can recover from any print mishap. On the free Starter plan they are kept for a fixed 30 days. On paid plans you choose 30, 60 or 90 days, and the default is 30. Labels are retained only as long as necessary to provide the service, in line with the UK GDPR storage limitation principle. Once the retention period ends they are permanently deleted and cannot be recovered, protecting your business and your customers' data.
